Sheet Fed GHS Label Printers
Printronix LP654C and LP844C Color Label Printers
Overview
The Printronix LP654C and LP844C are both LED-based color laser printers that are well‑suited for producing compliant Globally Harmonized System (GHS) labels when paired with the correct synthetic media. These make great, affordable Sheet Fed GHS Label Printers for GHS labels, whether you are printing a few at a time or a large batch.
The process of identifying the correct solution of certified printer, ink, and label combinations is not an easy task for a company. We offer printer and label solutions that are already certified to meet GHS labeling requirements. This allows companies to confidently implement our turnkey solutions for handling labeling in-house for GHS Compliance. We are a one-stop shop for the printers, labels, ink, parts, and other associated equipment needed for a complete solution.
Why the Printronix LP654C & LP844C are built for this application:
GHS labels require durable, clear text printing that can withstand chemicals, abrasion, moisture, and UV exposure. Both printers use LED electrophotographic technology with a high‑heat capable fuser. This allows them to bond toner securely to durable synthetic materials such as Polyester (PET), Polypropylene (PP), or Vinyl‑based synthetics designed for toner-based printing systems. Toner is a fine powder composed of plastic, silica, and organic compounds that is melted onto paper. This results in prints that are water-resistant and fade-resistant, making them ideal for durability in the toughest environments. The printers are designed to handle materials up to 254 gsm, so handling thick, heavy labels is no problem.
There are two ways to use these printers: either with blank labels or pre-printed labels. The printers are full-color CMYK Printers, so you can print any full-color logo, graphic, or text on a blank label. If you have labels that are pre-printed with a logo or other special graphics, then the printers can be used to fill in the specific product variable data from an SDS form or even add the appropriate pictograms with the red diamonds.
Industrial-Grade Durability
These printers are built with significantly more metal components than typical desktop printers, making them designed to thrive in demanding environments. They feature a high duty cycle (up to 100,000 pages/month) and robust design support continuous use. The printers also have a compact footprint with full front access to all consumables, allowing them to be used in tight spaces where space is a premium.
Unmatched Media Flexibility
These printers can print on a wide range of GHS label materials - including matte, glossy, and chemical-resistant synthetics - from small labels to large formats. Media weights from 60 to 256 gsm can be used, and sizes up to 8.5" x 52" (great for drum, tank, or other large-vessel labels). The straight paper path minimizes jams on thick or specialty stocks.
Lower Operating Costs
These printers have a highly efficient toner-and-drum system, delivering one of the lowest per-page costs in the industry. They are ideal for high-volume operations without the need for expensive specialty inkjet or thermal media.
Exceptional Print Quality
The printers are powered by advanced LED ProQ technology, ensuring consistent, high-quality output from first print to last. Their combination of high‑temperature fusing, sharp toner imaging, and robust media handling makes them strong options for in‑house chemical labeling.
Key characteristics include:
- Durability: Toner resists moisture and temperature fluctuations better than many inkjet inks, essential for marine shipping standards.
- Legibility: Produces high-contrast text and graphics that remain clear after environmental stress.
- On-Demand Printing: Allows businesses to print compliant labels in-house, reducing lead times and enabling quick updates to hazard information.
- Material Compatibility: When paired with certified synthetic materials (like polypropylene), toner printers help meet both BS5609 Section 2 (materials) and Section 3 (printed label durability) requirements.
